JAC & HUGO
Jac&Hugo, born from a love of design and desire to create, launched in 2012 by
Jacqueline van Heyst filling a niche for bold and modern jewellery using only precious metals, sterling silver and 9ct gold.
Inspired by jewellery designers such as Paloma Picasso and H.Stern and brilliant architects like Piet Boon and Frank Gehry, Jac believes in minimal manipulation of the gold and silver she works with relying instead on the inherent beauty and reflective qualities of the metal. Beautifully crafted and locally created jac&hugo pieces can be treasured. She is a big believer in the art that just one good piece of jewellery is needed to complete an outfit and that piece better be absolutely stunning and be of a quality that will last a lifetime.
Born and raised in Sydney, Jacqueline credits her mother, an artist and teacher, for nurturing her creativity and pointing out the beauty in absolutely everything. A big influence in her brand also comes from the 10 years she lived and worked in New York. A time, she says, that helped shape who she is. “It’s the constant energy, combined with the day to day difficulties of living and working in such a city that tests your conviction to who you are, what you love and why you do it”
Her first passion was Interior design but she moved quickly into fashion, working in Melbourne, Sydney and New York. It was her work as a stylist in the later that educated her visual skills to see balance and elegance in construction “my jewellery pieces have a strong graphic element, they make a statement but are also comfortable enough to wear every day.”
These days she is in love with her hometown Sydney and is very proud of her beautiful city. Jac&hugo is designed and made locally here in Paddington using sustainable practices.
We love Jacqueline’s art deco approach, it is classic and timeless. Our favourites are silver and brass rings as well as her beautiful bangles.
